Biography
Simone D. Castellarin, Ph.D.
Professor; Wine Research Centre; The University of British Columbia
Dr. Castellarin investigates the ripening process in grapes and the biological mechanisms that determine grape quality. He focuses on how grape composition is affected by environmental factors (temperature and water availability), and is developing viticultural strategies (irrigation, crop load and canopy management, hormone, and biostimulant applications) to improve ripening and the production of phenolic and aroma compounds in grapes.
In 2009, he received the Rudolf Hermanns Prize for outstanding scientific achievements in horticulture and viticulture.
